1960年代に製造されたREF.648Aは、当時のIWCとしては珍しい36mmケースを採用したモデルです。クラシックな外観ながら、現代の手首にも自然に収まるサイズ感が特徴です。REF.666「インジュニア」と比較されることの多いデザインですが、本機はスナップ式裏蓋を採用しているためケース厚が控えめで、よりシンプルで落ち着いた印象に仕上がっています。耐磁仕様のインジュニアとは用途や性格が異なり、同時代のIWCの中でも独自の位置づけにある一本です。
文字盤には経年によるごく軽い変化が見られるものの、全体的に整った状態を保っています。インデックスと針にはオニキスラインが入っており、視認性と質感のバランスが取れています。過度な劣化は見られません。
ブレスレットには、当時IWCに供給されていたボールマーク入りの「Gay Frères」製ライスブレスレットが装着されています。しなやかに動くリンク構造で装着感が良く、ヴィンテージらしい雰囲気をしっかりと感じられる仕様です。クラスプコードは1966年・第1期を示す刻印で、年代的にも違和感のない組み合わせです。ケース、文字盤、ブレスレットが自然な構成で揃った個体は多くなく、実用・コレクションのどちらにも適した一本といえます。
The REF.648A was produced in the 1960s and features a 36mm case, a size that was uncommon for IWC at the time. While it has a classic appearance, the proportions fit well on a modern wrist. Its design is often compared to the REF.666 “Ingenieur,” but this model uses a snap-on case back, resulting in a slimmer profile and a more understated overall look. Unlike the anti-magnetic Ingenieur, the REF.648A serves a different purpose and occupies a unique position among IWC models of the same era.
The dial shows only minor aging and remains in well-preserved condition. The indexes and hands feature onyx inlays, providing a balanced combination of visibility and refined texture, without any notable signs of excessive wear.
The watch is fitted with a period-correct Gay Frères rice bracelet with the ball hallmark 新品 for IWC at the time. Its flexible link structure makes it comfortable to wear while maintaining an authentic vintage feel. The clasp code indicates the first quarter of 1966, making it a natural match for the watch. A case, dial, and bracelet that align this well are not often found, making this a piece suitable for both regular use and collection.
